Welcome to the section "Vietnamese Agricultural Products Dictionary".

In each session, OCOP will introduce a characteristic agricultural product available on the platform, helping you understand more about its origin, features, and the story behind the product.

The product in the first session is a familiar ingredient for many chocolate lovers: cocoa.

Where is cacao grown?

In Vietnam, cacao is grown in many areas with favorable tropical climates such as Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Cat Tien, and Da Huoai.

Each growing region has its own unique natural conditions regarding soil, rainfall, and climate. These factors contribute to the differences in the flavor of cacao beans.

Thanks to the suitable soil conditions, Vietnamese cacao is often highly regarded for its distinctive aroma, balanced bitterness, and long-lasting aftertaste.

How does the journey of a cocoa bean unfold?

Before becoming the familiar hot cocoa or chocolate bar, cocoa beans must go through many different processes.

The first is the process harvest the cacao fruits have reached the appropriate ripeness.

Then, the cacao beans are separated from the fruit and taken to the stage fermentation – one of the most important steps in forming the distinctive flavor.

Next, the seed is drying, helps stabilize quality and prepare for the processing stage.

After completing these steps, the cacao beans will be roast, grind and continue processing into various products such as cocoa powder, pure cocoa, or chocolate.

Each step plays an important role in creating the final flavor of the product.

Why are more and more people interested in the origin of cacao?

Like coffee or tea, the quality of cocoa is greatly influenced by the growing region and the production process.

The same variety of plant, when grown in different areas, can produce cocoa beans with distinct flavor characteristics.

That is why more and more people want to know where the cocoa beans they use are grown and what processes they have undergone before reaching consumers.

The trend of being interested in product origins also reflects the increasing demand for transparency in food and agricultural products.

From raw materials to finished products

At OCOP, we believe that each product has its own unique story behind it.

Through the system traceability, Users can learn more about the journey of the product from the raw material region to the final product.

A tiny cocoa bean can travel hundreds of kilometers before becoming the cup of cocoa you are enjoying today.

And that is also the story that OCOP wants to connect with everyone – the story of the origin, the people, and the values behind each Vietnamese agricultural product.
